Need tattoo help. [24 Dec 2009|02:22am]

japanophile

[brigittefires]
I'm looking to get another tattoo in kanji (like the one in my icon! :) but I want to make sure I have the characters right.

I need another two-character tattoo so it balances. I want it to say "polyamory" or some variation on the theme. I was looking at "many" and "love", but then I wasn't sure if using those literal translations together would form something like "giant slut".

So I'd like to know how "many" + "love" would translate, if there is a Japanese term for consensual non-monogamy, and any suggestions for a two-character tattoo in the said theme. Any help would be appreciated :)

Could someone help translate the bold phrase for me? I am completely lost at it.

Affecting the empathic 'temperature' [23 Dec 2009|02:38pm]

empaths

[blossomingbud]
I always used to think I liked giving gifts because it's fun to make other people happy. But I just noticed how good it felt to give little holiday presents to my office-mates, and realized that I was getting a happy-buzz off of the surprise!intrigued!happy that each person gave off when I gave them their little package.

I wasn't giving the gifts just so that I could get buzzed, but it's an interesting thing. When I think about it, there's probably no social interaction with anyone that doesn't have some small shading of empathic resonance. How much of my behavior is unconsciously geared to affect those shadings? Do I smile at strangers for their benefit, or for mine, or for the general principle of increased-happiness-is-good? And even if it's selfish to be friendly... is that actually bad? (I vote no.)

On the flip side, I know that I compromise or give in sometimes in situations involving negativity, just to sidestep being surrounded by that cloud of uncomfortable emotion. I guess it would be like unconsciously/habitually turning up the thermostat if I felt chilly. Sometimes it's an acceptable adaptive choice, but it would probably be better for me to be aware of it so that I can consciously decide whether it's something I want to do or not. I guess in this analogy, grounding and centering and standing my ground would be equivalent to putting on a sweater, changing my own state instead of changing the environment.

Still, it's hard to be 100% aware of the empathic state of every situation (just like most of the time I don't think about the physical temperature of my environment). Even with increased mindfulness in extreme situations, I'm likely to continue unconsciously taking action to spin the everyday empathic environment around me to "comfortable".

I don't know that that's necessarily a bad thing. Just thinking it over and curious how other people think about it. :)

My humble apologizes ahead of time for this humble contribution, which may or amy not be funny, but I was in the middle of a fight between penguins led by gackt and elephants led by kyo when these were created. So needless to say I had to dodge peanuts and vomit, and snow balls and vanilla while creating these.. so please enjoy these while I try to make peace between the Gackt penguins and the Kyo elephants.

Translation help [22 Dec 2009|03:05pm]

[ music | Arashi // "Tokei Jikake no Umbrella" ]

Hello and Happy Holidays, everyone! :)

I'm sending a necklace as a gift to my friend in Japan, and on the box there's a little poem written in English. It's written in cursive, so I wanted to help her out with understanding it 'cause I don't think the Japanese can read cursive English...? while practicing my Japanese. The poem says:

"Pearl of Wisdom
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take; but by the moments that take our breath away"

Now, I'm not good at translating English into poetic Japanese. :3 My guess came out as 「知恵の真珠 人生は数えきれない息吹をする事に計れない、でも、計れるのは瞬間に息を呑む。」I just know that it sounds stiff and that the structure is probably wrong. Could someone please help me form this into less laughable Japanese?

MUCC WORLD CIRCUIT 2009 『球体 / Kyutai』 FINAL </p>

Nov 16th at JCB Hall

Drawing a Sphere at the End of a Long Journey

The MUCC WORLD CIRCUIT 2009 concert tour started on March 15th 2009 at Nippon Budokan. The band performed not only in Japan but overseas as well. Just by reading the fan reports sent to musicJAPANplus from around the world, it's easy to see that they've caused great excitement at each stop. Now the band members well loved by fans in many countries have come back to Japan. On November 16th at JCB Hall they performed the final concert of the '球体 / Kyutai [lit. 'Sphere']' tour. This report will show in detail the final culmination of '球体 / Kyutai'. Fans that've been to the concerts and those who unfortunately haven't should both find this account interesting.

Weekly Request Post #12 [21 Dec 2009|09:39pm]

jrock_tabs

[liangzhu]
If you can fulfill any of these requests, please make a new post in the community with the tab, unless it's already available somewhere like 911tabs - then just replying to the requester's comment is fine (the first link in the request goes to their original comment at the request post). You can link the requester to the post if you like, or I'll do it for you if it doesn't seem like the requester has noticed.

1) [info]grave_exe requests Phantasmagoria's "Fascination" - guitars; GP or .txt: [.mp3] [YouTube]
2) [info]houkai requests Dir en grey's "Hageshisa to, Kono Mune no Naka de Karamitsuita Shakunetsu no Yami" - guitars; GP or .txt: [.mp3]

For legal purposes, I suppose I should mention that song downloads are intended only as samples and should be deleted after 24 hours.

If you have a request and are using an .mp3 as a bribe, the request post is OVER HERE!

Online Shinkansen ticket reservation (JR West!!) [22 Dec 2009|02:54am]

tokyojapan

[chochajin]
[ music | Juanes - Rosario Tijeras ]

Hello,

I was wondering if it's possible to reserve your Shinkansen tickets online as well. I live in Japan, so it's no reservation from overseas.
All I could find was this website in English: JR East Shinkansen reservation (but I live close to Kyushu and that's West JR, so I can't use their service!!)
There's also this website in Japanese: Eki-net JR East (but that's JR East only yet again).

Does anybody know if it's possible to reserve Shinkansen tickets online for the Kyushu area or when you travel from Kyushu to Kansai?

I might not be able to drop by my local station to get the tickets before the actual travel date, but I thought winter time is really busy and it's better to reserve some tickets this time.

Also, do you have any information about ticket cancellation fees for Shinkansen tickets? I couldn't find any information about it.

Thanks so much in advance!
